Due to the vertical orientation of the Column Farm, as plants grow, gravity tends to pull them down. To optimize the use of the grow volume, plant supports encourage the plant to grow up and out in the presence of gravity. Not all plants need support in the Column Farm, but most do.
Plant supports get reused. A single purchase lasts a very long time.
