Germination Station - Details
The seed to harvest cycle begins in the Germination Station. Here, seeds placed in the grow media, at the proper depth, germinate. Having done so, the plant grows under a highly efficient LED lamp until it reaches a height of 1 to 4 inches. It then is moved to the grow column, where it reaches its harvest size; thus completing the seed to harvest cycle.
The Germination Station sits on the shelf inside the Column Farm. Germination trays receive light from the germination LED lamp, plus reflected light, insuring rapid germination and growth to transfer size. Light on/off is automated. Nutrients must be supplied manually, usually on 2 to 3 day intervals.
A Germination Station prepares 90 seedlings for placement into the grow column while 32 plants are growing to harvest size. With proper cycle timing, the Column Farm operates with all sites occupied. If germination yield is low, a single Column Farm may house 2 Germination Stations to insure an available supply of seedlings to the grow column.
